Quick-Grip CNC collet chucks from Royal Products come with a special installation tool that compresses the rear end of the collet for fast, easy collet changes. The installation tool incorporates steel pins that align with drilled holes on the collet face. Inserting these pins into the face holes and actuating the trigger temporarily compresses the collet. In its compressed state, the collet can then be inserted into the collet chuck, where the hooks on the rear of the collet segments become axially aligned with a retaining groove in the chuck.
Releasing the installation tool enables the collet to spring open, seating the hooks in the groove and drawing the matching ID/OD tapers into full, positive contact. According to the company, the collet can be changed in 10 sec.
The system features a 1/16" collet gripping range. Each collet segment is completely separated from the others by a vulcanized rubber spacer, which enables parallel gripping of the workpiece over the entire closing range.
In addition, the collet chucks have a full collapse range of 0.062", which is much wider than conventional spring collets, the company says. Also, the collet chucks tend to be shorter than common spring-type counterparts.
The collet chucks are available with capacities ranging from 1-5/8" to 3-1/8".
