GNCK tapping attachment from Bilz has a modular design to meet the specific requirements of individual machines. The attachment can be used on machining centers with automated toolchangers and on special-purpose machines. An integrated reversing gear makes changing the direction of the machine spindle unnecessary, reducing wear and tear on the spindle. The reversing gear enables fast tapping speeds for shorter cycle times compared to conventional tapping, the company says.
The attachment features length compensation on extension with a ball release system which operates when in reverse, ensuing thread depths of 60.15 mm (2.375") at speeds ranging to 4,000 rpm, according to the company. Precision collets (ER16-GB or ER25-GB) ensure that the tap is securely clamped, and additional square drivers can be used where high torque is being generated (for example, during thread forming). The torque support locks the unit relative to the spindle, thus enabling automatic tool changing. During a tool change, the locking mechanism releases the torque support. The GNCK tapping unit is equipped with coolant feed that can accommodate pressures ranging to a maximum of 50 bar (725 psi). Extended spindle lengths are available upon request.
