Methods Machine Tools’ high-performance Feeler FVT-600 vertical turning lathe is designed for machining large, heavy parts such as those used in the aerospace and power-generation industries. The lathe is available in right-side and left-side versions so that automation can be stationed between lathes for high-volume production applications.
Heavy-duty roller-type linear guideways provide increased rigidity when making heavy cuts, and precision ballscrews directly coupled with AC servomotors minimize thermal deformation and vibration. A high-precision, high-rigidity spindle is supported by two double-row cylindrical roller bearings and duplex angular thrust bearings, enabling heavy cutting in both radial and axial directions. Coolant flushes chips to an extra-wide conveyor for immediate evacuation.
The lathe features a 12-position turret and offers an X-axis travel of 12" (305 mm) and a Z-axis travel of 25.6" (650 mm). Spindle speeds range from 50 to 2,000 rpm on the standard 15" (381-mm) chuck size and optional chuck sizes including 18" (457.2 mm), 21" (533.4 mm) or 24" (609.6 mm), providing a high metal removal rate of 24 m/min. The machine offers a footprint of 134" × 71" (3,400 × 1,800 mm) with a maximum turning diameter of 23.6" (600 mm) and maximum turning length of 25.6" (650 mm). Maximum workpiece weight is 2,205 lbs (1,000 kg). A FANUC 0i-TD control is standard and available in a swiveling control box.
