Mikron Tool developed its CrazyDrill SST-Inox specifically for the challenges of cutting stainless steel. The small drill is said to provide better tool life, increased process reliability and improved productivity through features such as carbide with flexibility and thermal shock resistance; geometry with adapted characteristics; and high-resistant coating. According to the company the drill is capable of machining with 1.5 to 2 times higher cutting parameters compared to standard drills and with less pecking. A version of the tool is available with cooling channels through the shaft for improved heat control and chip removal. Both versions are available in sizes ranging from 0.3 to 2 mm (0.0118" to 0.0787") with increments of 0.05 mm and a usable length of 8×D.
