It’s safe to say “Hermle the Eagle” stole the show for the company at IMTS 2016. Show attendees waited in a line that wrapped around the booth at times for a chance to take a selfie with the piece, marveling at the precise intricacies.
This year, visitors to Hermle’s booth will find the company’s newest machine model, the C 650 five-axis machining center, machining a bull that is sure to catch the eye of many attendees. After watching live machining of the bull, visitors also have the chance to “Take the Bull by the Horns” and take a photo with a completed piece.
But sure enough, the eagle has also returned for IMTS 2018, and in typical Hermle fashion, this year’s display is a step up from 2016. The C 22 machining center machining the eagle is integrated with an RS05 robot system which is producing eagle pieces throughout the entire show. The RS 05 robot system from Hermle can be adapted to the C 12, C 22 and C 32 machining centers and is designed to supply them with workpiece blanks or pallets. The eagles will be miniature replicas of the now-famous piece made in 2016. Stop by the Hermle booth and if your timing is right, you may have a chance to take one home!
Elsewhere at the show, a Hermle C 42 turn-mill will be on display at the Emuge booth (431536) as part of a partnership between the two German companies. Emuge produces standard taps, thread mills, drills, end mills, toolholders and workpiece clamping devices, many of which are compatible with Hermle machines. Hermle and Emuge will demonstrate the punch-tap technology that both companies say will change thread cutting. Additionally, there will be live cutting of segments of a titanium blisk throughout the show.
