Heidenhain says its ECI 119 absolute, inductive rotary encoder鈥檚 feature a low profile (19-mm height, 92-mm OD) and large through shaft (50, 38 or 30 mm) make it suited for electric motors in the electronics and packaging industries; general automation; robotics; plastic molding machines; and swivel and tilting axes.

Heidenhain says its ECI 119 absolute, inductive rotary encoder’s feature a low profile (19-mm height, 92-mm OD) and large through shaft (50, 38 or 30 mm) make it suited for electric motors in the electronics and packaging industries; general automation; robotics; plastic molding machines; and swivel and tilting axes. 
 
The single-turn encoder offers 524,288 (19-bit) positions per revolution and provides ±90" system accuracy. The modular design eliminates common concerns about bearing wear, loading and mechanical self heating of the encoder and shaft currents, the company says. If all the mounting tolerances are met, the encoder is said to require virtually no maintenance outside of contamination protection.
 
The encoder uses the EnDat serial data interface. Two types of output are available: purely serial data (EnDat21) or serial data with 1 Vpp incremental signals (EnDat 01). The SSI interface can also be implemented, but this requires a minimum value order. EnDat enables users to transfer incremental and absolute position data as well as online diagnostics.
 
The encoder features an enhanced version of the Adjusting and Testing Software, which enables diagnostic checks of the encoder position signals. The ExI Mounting Wizard enables checking the scanning gap and signal amplitude to assess mounting quality. This ensures reliable and repeatable mounting in the field, the company says.
