Absolute Machine Tools will exhibit the Accutex DS-550CMAX die-sinker EDM featuring a dual, digital synchronized pulse generator to achieve optimal cutting conditions for operations such as one-electrode, deep-rib burning. The generator operates in a high frequency to produce repetitive sparking between the electrode and the workpiece, helping to minimize tool wear. According to Absolute, the EDM is capable of three-axis machining in six directions, plus multi-cavity, circular, square, spherical and 45-degree corner machining, among other operations. It can be used for three-axis linear machining, two-axis arc machining and helical machining electrode compensation.
Designed with finite element analysis (FEA), the EDM features a heavily ribbed Meehanite casting, linear bearings, pre-tensioned ballscrews, high-resolution servomotors and additional features for rigidity and accuracy in machining. The machine’s working capacity is 20" × 16" × 14" in the X, Y and Z axes. The fully functional C axis can accommodate as much as 50 lbs, and can also be equipped with any commercial chuck for electrode holding. The 32" × 18" worktable accommodates workpieces measuring as large as 38" × 27" × 17" and weighing as much as 2,970 lbs. A 15" industrial-grade LCD monitor is equipped with software supporting dialog options, said to simplify programming and operation.
The EDM can be equipped with shuttle and rotary automatic electrode changers or a standalone FANUC robot for unattended operations. Power supply options range from 60A to dual 180A generators. Additional options include a built-in C axis with 360-degree indexing, a dielectric cooler and a custom tooling package.
