Sharp Industries’ manual vertical knee mills are equipped with a 3-hp R-8 spindle, precision spindle bearings and Meehanite castings. Three models are available. The LMV-K offers a working surface of 9" × 42" and the LMV-50K provides 9" × 50", while the TMV-K offers a surface of 10" × 50". According to Sharp, the machines are well-suited for job shops, tool rooms and educational institutions.
The knee mills feature roller bearing support on the base of the motor shaft and an easy-access lubricating shaft. To control backlash, the feed screw is kept in contact with a pair of bronze nuts, which can be adjusted and held tight with a retaining nut and locking ring. The knee mills’ knuckled-head design locks the head into place for better accuracy and performance. It features a knuckle with six bolts, three on each side, that are fitted into circular T-slots with matching nuts securing them from the outside.
The knee mills also can be equipped with Sharp’s “K” package which includes a three-axis digital readout (DRO) and a power feed table. The TMV-K model can also be equipped with a power drawbar as part of this package.
